It doesn't care

if you're asleep.

It comes anyway,

covering the parking lots

and the trash and the ugly fence

with the same patient white

it gives the pine trees.

By morning,

nothing is ordinary.

The world has been

redrawn in a quieter hand,

and for one hour

before the plows arrive,

everything is the same

distance from beautiful.
