The Feeling Has No Name

There is a feeling I get

around 4 p.m. on gray Sundays

when the light is leaving

but hasn't left yet.

The Portuguese have a word

for something like it.

The Japanese, another.

English gave up trying.

It is not sadness exactly.

More like:

remembering something

that hasn't happened yet.

A longing for a thing

you cannot name,

which means you cannot lose it,

which means it is always with you,

which means

you are not as alone

as the 4 p.m. light suggests.
